Claremont School, originally known as Clear View opened in 1922 at Norwood Hill, a country style residence with views of South London. By 1928 pupil numbers had grown from eight to eighty, and in 1931 the School relocated to Claremont after the house and 34 acres came up for sale, and changed its name from Clear View School, to Claremont School.

During the Second World War the School was used by the Hawker Siddeley Aviation Company as its offices and the pupils were evacuated to Wales, returning in 1946. By 1955 the stable yard was converted to a junior school and pupil numbers had grown to over 200.

Fan Court School was established as a boy’s school in 1932 and was situated in Longcross, Surrey. The school started with just five pupils. Over the next forty years the school would grow steadily, eventually taking in both boys and girls at a junior level, with girls moving from Fan Court to Claremont when they turned ten years old.

Having already established a relationship with Claremont School,  the decision was made to amalgamate with the girl’s school in 1978, creating a co-educational school for children aged 2 ½ -18 years and formally changing its name to Claremont Fan Court School.

To celebrate this milestone, we are opening The Mansion doors to alumni and friends of the School on Saturday 30 March 2019 for a tour of the school, followed by afternoon tea in the Great Room.

This is a wonderful opportunity to revisit the school and see the recent restoration work, as well as reminisce about your school days with fellow alumni and learn a little more about the history of the School from fellow alumni and resident historian, Pamela Rider (Class of 1964).
