The Times gave a five star review of Tennessee Williams's Summer and Smoke which opened at the Ameida Theatre on London on Wednesday (7th March).

Former Claremont Fan Court pupil, Matthew Needham stars as John Buchanan, opposite Patsy Ferran as 'Miss Alma'. Set in in a town called Glorious Hill, Mississippi, in the early 1900s, the play is descibed as 'a delicate and moving portrait of repression and attraction'.

In a rave opening night review The Times says:

"the show belongs to Alma and John as they negotiate the thicket of smalltown gossip. Alma is torn between heart and head; Ferran floats on air, utterly inhabiting her character. Needham fires up the stage, rambunctious and unruly, as he samples the high life of the Moon Lake Casino, where anything goes."
